I started my career 22 years ago.
In the beginning, it was fantastic, I was doing what I loved and I was paid for it. I had so much enthusiasm.
The years went by, and I am still doing what I love, yet something changed. I discovered that I have available a finite number of keystrokes til I die (thanks Scott Hanselman). At this very point in time, there are 253,439,996 keystrokes left for me. With that in mind, I realize it is about time to focus. My life is all over the place, giving me intense dissatisfaction. What should I do?
Well, in this particular case, it seems that Buddha was right in saying: When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.
The solution for my temporary problem is quite simple: I need a mentor. I believe in mentoring, I mentored people myself and I was fortunate to have some wonderful mentors along my path.
Thanks to Brent Ozar I found out about a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: becoming a mentee of Paul Randal. Paul is for most people an expert in SQL Server and the CEO of SQLskills.com. For me, in my SQL knowledge tree, his name is the first association with the DBCC item.
We have a saying in Romania that sounds a bit like this: The person that does not have an elder should better buy one. I hope Paul Randal will be my elder in my journey. It would be a great benefit for me and I would do my best to pay it forward.
As the end of 2022 is coming quick, I wish everyone a better 2023! Maybe next year will be the new start that some of us are looking for!
